In the 1960s, the movie The Sound of Music was filmed in Salzburg and the state of Salzburg. The movie was based on the true story of Maria von Trapp, a Salzburg-based nun who took up with an aristocratic family and fled German occupation. Although the film is relatively unknown to Austrians, the town draws many visitors who wish to visit the filming locations.

In 2007, our 13 day tour of Tuscany and Northern Italy was one of our most popular.

We set out to explore Florence and the Tuscan hill towns from our accommodation in an 18th century villa, then visited the Italian lake district dotted with picturesque villages at the foot of the mountains, finishing the tour in beautiful Salzburg.

For the 2008 season, we’re extending our tours of Italy.
